More About How I Use Google Earth

Exploring more about my 'One Year Of Bike Rides' graphic. Google Earth has at least one thing over most maps... its in 3D! That means you get really cool maps like these:

Here's a close up on the area around West Park, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. It's pretty cool. Note trails I've travelled more often get 'thicker' as they overlap, developing a visual cue to patterns.
But as I mentioned above, Google Earth is 3D! You can get different angles on the view. Here's a wider view with the West Park and Water Hill areas in the foreground and Dexter, MI way out there... that line with a little loop in the middle-top. Note that one can now begin to see the terrain in this part of Ann Arbor, lots of hills, especially around the Mighty Huron River.
This area along the Huron River is one of my favorite places. To the top left, that big forested area is The Bluffs Park... great for hiking, then there's the whole 'Border to Border Trail' which is clearly well travelled. This view goes all the way to Island Park and Fuller Pool on the right. I have a geocache hidden somewhere in this area. :)
